Location
Cao Bang is known as a mountainous province located in the Northeast region of our country, adjacent to China, with a border over 300 kilometers long. Transportation
Cao Bang is about 280 kilometers from Hanoi. From Hanoi to Cao Bang City, there are bus companies such as Thanh Ly, Khanh Hoan, 42,… at My Dinh, Giap Bat, and Gia Lam bus stations. Tickets per person cost about $10,2. Travel time is about 6-7 hours.
In the city, you can find motorbike rental locations. The price is about $8/day.
Currently, Cao Bang does not have a civil airport, therefore, tourists in the South and Central regions can fly to the airport in Hanoi and travel by car to Cao Bang.
Weather
In Cao Bang, the climate is divided into two distinct rainy and dry seasons. The rainy season usually lasts from April to September, and the dry season will start from October to March of the following year.
Therefore, if you want to visit Ban Gioc waterfall, the appropriate time will be around August and September.
If you like to enjoy flowers, you should go to Cao Bang during the bucket flower season around November. If you want to see snow, you can travel to Cao Bang in the winter.

1. Thác Bản Giốc (Ban Gioc Waterfall)
Ban Gioc Waterfall was on the list of the most beautiful waterfalls in Southeast Asia and also in the top 4 largest waterfalls in the world. Located at the intersection of the border between China and Vietnam, Ban Gioc is as beautiful as a strip of pure white silk between the mountains and forests of Cao Bang and flows down to the jade-colored Quay Son River.
Ban Gioc Waterfall is about 100 kilometers from Cao Bang center so you can get here by bus or motorbike. The ideal time to come here is August – November. The period August – September is when Cao Bang is at the end of the rainy season, so the water at the waterfall is abundant and extremely clear. Meanwhile, October is the season of ripe rice and November is when wild sunflowers bloom here.
2. Đèo Mã Phục (Ma Phuc Pass)
Ma Phuc is the most beautiful pass in Cao Bang province and is a place that makes many tourists amazed by the majesty of nature. The pass is located in Tra Linh district and has a length of about 3.5 kilometers and an altitude of 700m (compared to sea level). As its name suggests, Ma Phuc Pass is located across a limestone mountain and valley, creating an image similar to a horse.
The pass is among the most dangerous roads in Vietnam. At the same time, Ma Phuc is also classified as a geological heritage of Non-Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark, recognized by UNESCO. The most beautiful times for this place are early winter (buckwheat season) and spring (rice and corn growing season).
3. Hồ Thang Hen (Thang Hen Lake)
Also located in Tra Linh district, Thang Hen Lake is one of the most famous Cao Bang tourist destinations. The lake is located in a complex of 36 natural lakes located at an altitude of nearly 1700m and connected through an underground cave system. Among them, Thang Hen Lake has the largest area and also attracts the most travelers.
This lake has the most beautiful scenery in the North of Vietnam with emerald green water reflecting the clouds and sky. Surrounding the lake are primeval forests and blooming wildflower beds. Although the lake water will turn turbid during the rainy season, the scene is still as beautiful as a watercolor painting among the Northeast mountains and forests.
4. Suối Lenin (Lenin Stream)
Located in the Pac Bo Special National Revolutionary Historical Relic Complex, Lenin Stream is one of the prominent names that attracts a large number of tourists. Only about 55 kilometers north of Cao Bang city, Lenin Stream is located in Pac Bo village, Truong Ha commune, Ha Quang district, Cao Bang province.
Lenin Stream has a very special blue color, like a smooth silk sheet winding through rocky cliffs. People call Lenin Stream the green heart of Pac Bo heaven and earth, perhaps for that reason. Only from July to August every year does the water flow so fast that the stream turns turbid. During the remaining months of the year, Lenin Stream wears a soft, beautiful green silk sheet.

Vịt Quay 7 vị (7-flavor Roast Duck): As the name suggests, 7-flavor roast duck in Cao Bang is prepared with 7 different spices. Duck meat is carefully prepared and marinated to taste. When eaten, it is fragrant, sweet, and tender. Each flavor will bring a unique experience to diners.
Bánh Trứng Kiến (Ant-egg Cake): This is a dish that is made from eggs of black ants. Black ant eggs are very nutritious and delicious. When enjoying this dish, you will feel the delicious chewiness of the cake and the aromatic, fatty taste of ant eggs.

Bún Khô 8 màu (8-color Dry Vermicelli Noodles): is famous in Hong Quang 2 hamlet, Hung Dao commune, about 9 kilometers from Cao Bang city. The yellow vermicelli noodles are made from corn, the red from brown rice, the green is moringa, and the taste of blue butterfly pea flowers, purple camphor vermicelli, purple sweet potatoes…
Bánh Cuốn (Steamed Rice Rolls): In Cao Bang, people will enjoy this familiar dish with bone broth. The crust is thinly coated but still very supple, fragrant with rice, rolled with a little minced meat inside, and served with a cup of broth containing poached eggs, pork trotters, and coriander.
