Specailties
Binh Duong’s specialty Banh Beo Bi is made from specialty red rice with a special rich flavor. Unlike other types of banh beo, banh beo bi is made with rice flour and coconut milk and then steamed.
In the next step, mung beans are prepared and cooked to make a filling to spread on top of banh beo. Lean pork meat is cooked with coconut water, then cut into small strips and covered with a layer of “thính” (Toasted-rice powder) on top.
A cup of sweet and sour fish sauce is also served with this cake. Banh Beo Bi is eaten with herbs, pickles, bean sprouts, peanuts, and sweet and sour fish sauce. When enjoying this dish, people here do not dip each piece of cake into a bowl of dipping sauce, they pour sweet and sour fish sauce onto the dish, so that the ingredients are soaked in fish sauce and bring a delicious, rich flavor to diners.
